Amarillo ISD announces flexible learning option

AMARILLO, Texas(KAMR/KCIT) — Beginning in August 2026 Amarillo Independent School District is set to introduce Amarillo ISD Online for students in grades 6-12.

Officials said Amarillo ISD online will offer complete virtual and hybrid instruction in courses already offered through the district. AISD shared hybrid students can participate in extracurricular activities including AmTech Career Academy, athletics, band, choir and orchestra.

“We decided to offer it because we want to ensure that every student has what he or she needs to be successful and that we meet the needs of our families, “Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction Jennifer Wilkerson said. “And what we are learning about our families is they need a more flexible learning environment. Not all families. But some families need a more flexible learning environment to meet the needs of their families.”
