The AGenda with Maria: AgriLife provides New World screwworm resources

AMARILLO, Texas (KAMR/KCIT) – There is a growing concern that’s been getting attention across Texas and beyond, the New World screwworm. This parasitic fly poses a very real threat to livestock, wildlife, pets, and in rare cases, even people. Recently, the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service released new fact sheets focused specifically on protecting human health and companion animals.

In this edition of The AGenda with Maria, KAMR Local 4 News’ Meteorologist Maria Pasillas sat down with Dr. Phillip Kaufman, Department Head for Entomology, who explains the new resources aim to help Texans understand the risks of the screwworm, recognize the warning signs, and take action before infestations become severe.
