Marty Jones reflects on losing home, Estates Drive

AMARILLO, Texas (KAMR/KCIT) — When Marty Jones evacuated his home on Estates Drive Monday afternoon, he didn’t know what would be left standing when he returned. On Tuesday, afternoon when he was allowed access to the area, his home was no longer standing, after the Landfill fire made its way through the area.

“They called me about 3:30 and said that the fire would kick back up,” explained Jones. “And so… I knew the way the wind was blowing it was probably gonna come this way. So, I went ahead and got my cat a few things.”

Jones went to his friend’s house and waited to see what would happen and when he would be able to go home. When he was finally able to return home, a few thoughts went through his mind.

“I don’t have to mow the yard anymore,” said Jones. “Don’t have to clean the house. No laundry to do. No need for a garage sale. Ain’t nothing left to sell. It’s just crazy that all of this destruction and that little old tractor made it.”…
