Assistant City Manager Donny Hooper was among a number of officials to speak at a late afternoon press conference Tuesday to address the Stinky Fire that started at the City landfill over the weekend. Hooper says crews were on scene shortly after being notified of the fire at 3:42 Sunday afternoon.
Hooper said as crews worked the fire at the landfill, they did not notice embers escaping to areas nearby, noting the size of the catch fence that surrounds the property. He didn’t rule out the possibility embers from the landfill fire may not be a contributing factor in the Stinky Fire.
Hooper also said one of the first moves made was to contact a contractor in the Metroplex experienced in dealing with the challenge landfill fires create. That person in turn brought in equipment from two other states. The contractor and the equipment were at the scene by 2 a.m. Monday morning…
