Amarillo Animal Management launches pet pantry to help owners with basic supplies

AMARILLO, Texas (KVII) — Pet owners in Amarillo who are struggling to afford basic supplies for their animals can now get help through a pet pantry at Amarillo Animal Management and Welfare.

The pantry started in 2020 as the shelter looked for ways to alleviate pet costs. Outreach Manager Kali Dennis said the program initially relied on drive-thru distributions during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“We used to do drive-through distributions of dog food. And then, as Covid kind of went away, the need for the drive-thrus went away. So now we just have a pantry here at our intake office to assist citizens going through temporary financial hardship, by offering temporary relief with pet food,” Dennis said…
