Questions raised over Amarillo ISD graduation fireworks during active wildfires

AMARILLO, Texas (KAMR/KCIT) — Questions and criticism surfaced this week after fireworks were used during Amarillo ISD graduation ceremonies while wildfires were actively burning across parts of the Panhandle.

On Monday night, Amarillo ISD held Tascosa High School’s graduation ceremony, which included a fireworks display at Dick Bivins Stadium. At the same time, crews were continuing to respond to the landfill fire west of Amarillo.

The criticism comes after days of dangerous fire conditions across the area, including fires that damaged homes and forced evacuations.
