Garden Grove evacuation area significantly reduced, thousands still remain displaced

Orange County officials announced Monday evening that they have significantly reduced the boundaries of the evacuation zone surrounding the failing chemical tank at an aerospace facility in Garden Grove.

Emergency evacuations began on May 21, as a tank containing a highly volatile and flammable industrial chemical began overheating at GKN Aerospace Transparency Systems Inc., located at 12122 Western Avenue.

Garden Grove Police Chief Amir El-Farra announced that, as of 6 p.m. Monday, the new boundaries have shrunk to:

  • Orangewood Avenue to the north
  • Dale Street to the east
  • Knott Street to the west
  • Garden Grove Boulevard to the south
