Erewhon Expands Into Costa Mesa With New Orange County Location

The grocery chain Erewhon is heading to Costa Mesa, taking over the former T-Shirts Warehouse space at 140 E. 17th St., according to The OC Register.

Driven by a desire to rethink everyday nutrition, Aveline and Michio Kushi launched Erewhon in the 1960s. Named after a novel they admired, the market introduced a new concept to American consumers and is credited as the country’s first natural foods grocery store. The Los Angeles-based retailer is expected to open the new location in September 2027.

In 2011, the company was purchased in 2011 by Tony and Josephine Antoci.
