California mom charged with killing toddler son, staging death as accidental drowning

Melissa Lynn Beisel of Placentia, California, could face up to 25 years in prison for the alleged murder of her toddler and for trying to make his death look like an accidental drowning on Sept. 22, 2025. Beisel was allegedly bathing her two-year-old son, Aidan, in a plastic storage bin inside the walk-in shower of the family’s Placentia home on Sept. 22, 2025, when she went away to grab soap.

Beisel harmed herself with a sharp object after her son’s death

She returned to find her son “face down in the bin, unresponsive,” per a Placentia police department press release. The mother then proceeded to perform CPR on her son to no avail, following which she used a sharp object to injure herself in the neck and arms.

Beisel lay in the shower next to her son’s body for six hours before her husband discovered them and called 911. On reaching the family’s home, police discovered the accused in the shower with the “water running with the body of her two-year-old son, Aidan,” per the Orange County District Attorney’s Office. The child was declared dead after he was taken to the hospital. On the day of the incident, Beisel’s four other children were also living in the same home…
