2 arrested at Camp Pendleton after 6-hour manhunt; drugs seized

A shelter-in-place order at Camp Pendleton was lifted after two suspects who breached the Marine base during a law enforcement pursuit were arrested following a “high-stakes” six-hour manhunt, authorities said.

According to the Naval Criminal Investigative Service, the incident began when two suspects fleeing local law enforcement breached a gate at Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton and entered the installation.

The suspects allegedly abandoned their vehicle in a base housing area and fled on foot, prompting authorities to launch a large-scale search and issue a temporary shelter-in-place order to protect members of the military community.

NCIS said approximately 30 personnel were mobilized as part of the operation, which involved multiple federal, state and local law enforcement agencies.
