Southern California beachgoers are being urged to exercise caution this weekend as king tides, elevated surf and dangerous rip currents create hazardous conditions along the coast.
In Newport Beach, city crews spent Friday preparing for the high-water event by deploying pumps, installing flood-protection measures and making sandbags available to residents in vulnerable coastal neighborhoods.
