Drone ends Southern California DUI suspect’s attempt to dodge arrest

A suspected drunk driver was recently tracked down by a police drone in Orange County, according to authorities.

A citizen in Irvine reported a driver swerving on local streets, prompting a response from the Irvine Police Department. Officers deployed a drone as part of the department’s Real-Time Crime Center “Drone as First Responder” program.

Police did not share the exact date of the incident, but said the drone tracked the driver as he attempted to evade officers, at one point pulling into a shopping center parking lot.

“The driver attempted to dodge responding patrol officers by hiding out in a shopping center, but it’s tough to hide when a police drone is capturing your every move in 4K,” Irvine police said in a Facebook post Monday. “Outrun a patrol unit on the ground? Maybe. Outrun a flying robot? Not a chance.”…
