OC Parents Face Charges Over Kids’ Illegal E-Bike Use

Orange County prosecutors are investigating over two dozen parents whose children are suspected of illegally riding e-bikes or e-motorcycles.

This move comes amid growing concerns about the safety of these vehicles, especially among juveniles. The Orange County District Attorney’s Office confirmed this week that they have 26 open investigations that could lead to criminal charges against parents.

Two months ago, the District Attorney’s Office launched a special unit called RIDE SAFELY (Smart Accountability for E-Bikes and E-Motos and Law Enforcement for Youth) to address the issue. The unit, part of the Family Protection Division, aims to ensure consistent charging decisions and sentencing recommendations.
