A huge sand sculpture shaped like a wave presided over the recent US Open of Surfing competition and festival south of the Huntington Beach Pier, providing a selfie moment for all who attended this year’s event known for its epic waves. The Sand Sculpture made by the company, Archisand, was built using 100 tons of sand, it stood 8 feet tall and spanned 30 feet in length.
“This centerpiece of the contest is something we’ve been doing annually at the US Open since 2008,” said Greg LeBon, architect and professional sand sculpturist for Archisand. “We had six team members working on this project which included highlights of the event artfully shaped into the giant sculpture.” Archisand has been at almost all California beaches and you can find their next design at The Ohana Festival in Dana Point this September, he said.
