Titans advocate for support as CSUF student faces immigration removal process

Jesus Barajas, a fourth-year psychology major at CSUF and Mexican immigrant, recently received a letter stating he would undergo a removal proceeding. Under pressure of an unreleased court date, Titans and coworkers at the Diversity Initiative Resource Center hosted a fundraising event this Sunday.

Removal proceedings are formal court hearings initiated by the U.S. government to decide if an immigrant should be removed from the country. Barajas received a court date of Oct. 1, which was canceled without notice and not rescheduled, forcing him to shoulder $30,000 in legal fees.

An ongoing GoFundMe has been created in addition to the fundraiser, which occurred from 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Oct. 4, with all proceeds going directly to support Barajas. The event was hosted only 10 minutes away from campus…
