The first of two storms rolled through Southern California Thursday, leaving homes and businesses flooded, vehicles submerged, and roadways peppered with crashes.
KNX News’ Jon Baird spoke to Roberto Gomez, a California Highway Patrol officer, about the chaotic conditions on L.A. and Long Beach roads. Gomez said that by midday, 10 CHP offices had dealt with more than 100 disabled vehicles and 300 accidents.
Baird reported that some cars were completely submerged underneath a railroad trestle on Willow Street in Long Beach.
The flooding in Seal Beach was worse. There were stores – and even a hotel – that had flooded.
“Everybody here has, you know, at least six inches of standing water, electronics products, broken coolers, broken, you know, everything, computers, fax machines, printers, all of it and it’s not over yet,” Gomez said.
Baird spoke to David Turk, the owner of Devynn’s Garden, about the flooding. Turk said this is the third time that his flower shop has flooded since he opened back in 1998.
