Flash Flooding & Heavy Rain in Orange County, CA

Tuesday, February 6, 2024

It has been raining hard since Sunday night. It rained all day on Monday, as well. Today, I woke up early, around two in the morning, and I just played with my iPhone while listening to the pouring rain coming down in the background. It was soothingly relaxing. I was wide awake, probably because I slept early last night. I achieved one of my new year’s resolutions—I have been sleeping early this year, but waking up way too early.

At around 7:42AM, a buzzing sound scared the shit out of me, and I looked around to see where it was coming from. At first, I thought it sounded like a fire alarm or kitchen appliance going off. But I soon realized that it was coming from my iPhone. I checked my iPhone to noticed a flash flood warning about flooded streets, and people shouldn’t go out because most flood deaths happen in cars. This flash floods are affecting creeks, streams, highways, streets, underpasses, and urban locations, located at Santa Ana, Irvine, Huntington Beach, Garden Grove, Orange, Fullerton, Costa Mesa, Tustin, Yorba Linda, and Anaheim. Moreover, such heavy rain caused .5 to .75 inches of rain to have fallen within the past hour as well as two to three inches during the past 24 hours. It is also expected to rain up to another inch in one hour. There might also be additional rain, up to 1.5 inches, at flooded areas. I also noticed from weather forecasts that it will continue to rain on Wednesday.
