Hiker, 22, missing after going out solo on California mountain during major storm conditions

A desperate search is underway for 22-year-old Lisei Huang, a resident of El Monte, who went missing during a solo hike in the Mt. Baldy area of the San Gabriel Mountains on Sunday, February 4, 2024.

The alarm was raised at 11:14 p.m. on Sunday when deputies from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Fontana Sheriff’s Station received a distressing call about Huang’s disappearance. Having embarked on her hike around 2 p.m., there has been no communication from her since approximately 4 p.m.

The urgency of the situation prompted the deployment of the Sheriff’s West Valley Search and Rescue Crew at 2:30 a.m. on Monday, February 5, 2024. Despite their dedicated efforts, the crew was unable to locate Huang.

Tuesday, February 6, 2024, saw continued search efforts, but the mission was hampered by heavy snowfall and elevated avalanche risks, prompting authorities to temporarily suspend operations. Search and rescue personnel will remain stationed at the trailhead, ready to resume their efforts as soon as conditions permit.
