A prolonged period of unsettled weather is underway in Southern California as a series of weather systems bring widespread showers, the potential for thunderstorms, and heavy snowfall to the region. The National Weather Service warns of significant impacts, including the risk of flooding and river overflow, as the stormy conditions persist through the end of the week.
As of 8 PM, light showers have already reached northern portions of Orange County, the Inland Empire, and parts of the San Bernardino mountains. The main event, a line of moderate to heavy rain moving southeast from the Central Coast, is expected to increase shower activity across the region.
Widespread rain and mountain snowfall are anticipated, with hourly rain rates ranging from 0.30 to 0.50 inches per hour.
The convective nature of the system introduces the possibility of thunderstorms, waterspouts, and small hail overnight. Strong, gusty winds are also expected as the precipitation line sweeps from northwest to southeast.
