The city of Anaheim is looking to crack down on illegal street vending .
KNX News’ Emily Valdez spoke to Erin Ryan, the spokesperson for Anaheim, about the new proposed laws. Ryan said people have called the city and reported becoming sick after eating food from a vendor.
“Unfortunately, we have seen many instances where there’s raw meat that is sitting out in the sun, or in a box on the ground that is waiting to be cooked and ultimately sold,” she said.
Ryan said there are other instances where vendors take over the whole sidewalk, forcing people to walk in the street.
“We’re also looking at the option to do a little bit more here in-house and that would include being able to impound any type of equipment or food that’s just not safe for consumption,” she said.

The proposed law would require vendors to get a license through the city. It will also allow the city to impound merchandise and carts if the vendors keep breaking the rules.
