Santa Ana: man accused of attacking child with knife

A 28-year-old man was charged Wednesday with attempting to kill a child with a knife and screwdriver in Santa Ana.

Christopher Lee Kearns was charged with attempted murder and child abuse and endangerment, both felonies. He also faces sentencing enhancements for inflicting great bodily injury and the personal use of a deadly weapon.

Kearns is accused of attacking the child on Sunday, according to the criminal complaint, which alleged the weapons were a knife and a screwdriver.

Kearns did not enter a plea at his arraignment Wednesday, which was rescheduled for March 1 in the Central Justice Center in Santa Ana .

Further details were not immediately available. Police and prosecutors did not immediately respond to requests for details.
