Set to Sweat: 115-degree temperatures possible in California’s Antelope Valley over July 4th holiday

Temperatures in the Los Angeles area are set to gradually warm through the weekend, with a significant rise expected next week. The National Weather Service (NWS) Los Angeles Office warns of dangerously hot conditions in interior areas, where daily highs could reach 100 to 105 degrees, and even soar to 105 to 115 degrees in the Antelope Valley and surrounding foothills.

An upper-level trough along the California coast, combined with a strengthening onshore flow, provided some cooling today, with the marine layer deepening to 1500-2000 feet. This evening, marine layer low clouds are returning to the Central Coast and LA County coast, with low clouds and fog expected to cover most coastal areas overnight, possibly extending into coastal valleys.

As the weekend progresses, Southwest California will be influenced by a lingering upper-level trough and an upper-level ridge building from the south-central states. This will lead to a warming and drying trend, especially across interior regions. By Sunday, temperatures are expected to rise into the 90s in most areas, reaching 100-105 degrees in the Antelope Valley and 70s near the coast. Another slight increase is anticipated on Monday.
