‘Leave It to Beaver’ Star Ken Osmond Quit Acting to Become an LAPD Officer

Ken Osmond (no relation to The Osmonds), best known as troublemaker “Eddie Haskell” in the wholesome television sitcom Leave It to Beaver, was a heartthrob in the late 1950s and popular among female fans who loved watching him on the small screen. He debuted on the show at only 14 years old and became a household name after only one episode. On the other hand, his acting career was volatile, especially as he aged out of his boyish looks and reached adulthood in the entertainment business.

Ken was born on June 3, 1943, to Thurman Osmond (1911-1990) and Pearl Osmond (1918-1984) in Glendale, California. While his mother was instrumental in his acting career, his father was a professional carpenter. He started as a background actor and auditioned tirelessly until he finally scored the role of “Eddie Haskell”. While ‘Beaver’ was still in production, Ken served in the United States Armed Reserve as an armorer and was allowed time off when called to duty.
