A 34-year-old inmate was taken back into custody Wednesday three days after leaving a female community reentry program site in Santa Fe Springs.
Christina Hammond walked away from the program on Sunday and was located by California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation special agents Wednesday in Hesperia and taken into custody without incident, the department reported.

Hammond was rehoused in a highly secured area at the California Institute for Women in Corona and is pending formal charges from the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.
Hammond was sentenced to five years in prison for assault with force likely to produce bodily injury, with an enhancement for inflicting great bodily harm.
“Since 1997, 99% of all people who have left an adult institution, camp or community-based program without permission have been apprehended,” according to a statement from the department.
