California woman wins $10 million after hitting California Lottery jackpot, Plans early retirement

SACRAMENTO – Nora Hammersteadt’s routine drive home turned into a life-changing moment when a sudden urge led her to stop at an Orange County liquor store. She bought a few California Lottery tickets, and one of them hit the jackpot—a $10 million win on the Royal Riches game.

“I thought I was dreaming!” said Hammersteadt, who also won $100 on another ticket. The thrill was overwhelming, but she kept her big win a secret for a week before claiming her prize.

“It hit me when I turned in the ticket—I’m retiring two years earlier than planned!” Hammersteadt laughed. The liquor store also benefited, receiving a $50,000 bonus for selling the lucky ticket.
