Dolphins stampede off Orange County Coast on Christmas Eve: Video

Boaters off the Orange County coast witnessed a spectacular sight on Christmas Eve.

Video recorded Tuesday near Dana Point and shared with KTLA by Dana Wharf Whale Watch shows a stampede of dolphins splashing above the water near its boats.

“These cetaceans love to bow-ride and scientists believe this is mostly because it’s fun!” the whale-watching business stated in a post on Facebook .

Bow-riding was described by Dophin Dock as when dolphins surf in the waves created by ships.

“It’s always exciting to see the pod turn towards us as they begin to make their approach!” Dana Wharf Whale Watch stated.

“These highly intelligent and social animals can swim at high speeds and also seem to enjoy cruising all around our vessels,” the post read.
