IRVINE, California — A man died following a medical emergency at a parking structure exit in Irvine, according to the Irvine Police Department. The incident occurred around 3:30 p.m. on January 2, 2025, at 100 Spectrum Center Drive.Officers from the Irvine Police Department and the Orange County Fire Authority responded to the scene, where they found Robert Ray Bell, a resident of Laguna Woods, wedged between the partially open driver’s door and his vehicle. A good Samaritan was assisting him when authorities arrived. Despite lifesaving efforts, Bell was pronounced dead at the hospital.Witnesses and video evidence suggest that Bell’s Mazda SUV began to move forward as he was outside the vehicle, having failed to put it in park. The open driver’s door struck parking equipment, trapping Bell between the door and the vehicle. The Irvine Police Department’s Major Accident Investigation Team is investigating the incident.
