South Carolina volunteers aid California wildfire victims

(WACH) — Firefighters have been battling numerous uncontrollable wildfires on the opposite side of the nation. This week, hazardous winds are returning to the California region, and all hands are on deck.

“The American Red Cross of South Carolina has deployed at least five volunteers to the Southern California, Los Angeles area. Right now, those volunteers are on the ground helping those affected by the wildfires,” Nick Gibson of the South Carolina Red Cross said.

“They’ve been providing food, shelter, and emotional support to the residents who need it.”

In California, the wildfires were sparked by a strong Santa Ana wind event, where gusts as strong as 100 mph funneled through the canyons around Los Angeles, causing the wildfires to grow out of control quickly…
