About an hour into my test drive of a gray 2024 Carrera 911 at the Porsche Experience Center in Carson, an industrial city in the South Bay of Los Angeles, I felt like I was in the middle of an Eminem song . My knees were weak, my palms were sweaty. And I was unmistakably queasy.
I turned to my instructor, an upbeat young man named Hunter, and asked if it’s normal to feel a little topsy-turvy after spinning out and learning how to control a hydroplaning $170,000 car on wet polished concrete. (Hint: You have to turn the wheel in the same direction the car starts spinning.)
“Oh, people throw up here all the time,” he said with a laugh, adding that you definitely don’t want to do that in the car because of the steep cleanup costs. Noted.
