A magnitude 3.93 earthquake struck near Malibu, California, on Sunday night, briefly shaking parts of the Greater Los Angeles area, according to the U.S. Geological Survey .
The quake was detected at 8:17 p.m. PDT about 6.2 miles northwest of Malibu and registered as a 3.9 magnitude tremor in the broader Los Angeles region. There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries .
Residents across the area reported feeling light shaking, but seismologists say quakes of this size are common in Southern California and typically do not pose a serious threat . Tremors were felt throughout Los Angeles, Thousand Oaks, Simi Valley, Ventura, Agoura Hills, and Westlake Village. “4.0 earthquake Malibu,” Crystal Golden posted on X. “That felt big from here.”
