In California, Hilary Klein noticed a strange heap of fur beneath a parked trailer and felt compelled to investigate. As she approached, the fluffy pile began to move, revealing sad eyes peering back at her. To her astonishment, it was a dog in desperate need of help—a heavily matted pup that seemed to have lost all hope of rescue.
A Call For Help
Klein shared a photo of the dog with Suzette Hall, founder of Logan’s Legacy 29 , a rescue organization in Irvine, California.
“He looked like he was just a pile of fur under a trailer. Thank goodness Hilary noticed him and reached out for help,” Hall stated in a Facebook post .
Quickly responding to the situation, Hall and her committed team rushed to the rescue. Volunteer Mary Nakiso was the first to arrive and observed the distressed dog pacing nervously between his hiding spots—the trailer and some nearby bushes. Hall soon joined her, realizing to their heartbreak that he had been abandoned from a car weeks earlier. Eager to provide comfort, they couldn’t wait to bring him to safety.
Rescuing The Dog
They devised a plan, placing a humane trap near the trailer lured with treats. When Jersey, the pup, caught a whiff of the food, he approached the trap. However, a neighbor inadvertently startled him just as he was about to go inside, causing the frightened dog to run away. As the neighbor chased him, Jersey grew even more anxious to escape.
“He literally scaled an 8-foot wall and ended up in a construction site. I was in shock — he is a small dog, and he scaled 8 feet,” Hall recounted. She looked over the wall but was unable to spot Jersey.
Determined to save him, Hall and Nakiso returned to Jersey’s favorite area, spending the night in anticipation of his return. The next morning, Hall spotted him coming down the street and quickly set up another humane trap near his cozy bushes, keeping her distance to avoid scaring him away. As Jersey approached, he was unaware that he was about to be rescued.
A New Beginning
The hungry and weary pup couldn’t resist the enticing hot dogs and ventured into the trap. Ecstatic rescuers immediately felt relief knowing Jersey was safe at last. Hall took him to Camino Pet Hospital for a medical examination and a much-needed grooming session, where the vet staff carefully shaved off his matted fur and gave him a refreshing bath.
Feeling the warmth of goodhearted people around him, the pup relaxed and began to trust again. After his health checkup, he was ready to find his forever home. Second Leash On Life , a rescue organization based in San Diego, took him in, helping him secure a loving new family…
