A mother and daughter were victims of a drive-by shooting in Compton last week. Police believe the mother’s ex-boyfriend shot them, and he remains at large.

According to a report by ABC7, deputies for the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department responded to a shooting incident on Tuesday evening at around 7 PM near Caldwell Street and Central Avenue. Deputies found the bodies of two women. One woman was lying on the road, and another was in a car nearby. Authorities identified the victims as La’von Hall, 45, and her daughter, Ma’Laysia Martin. Both were pronounced dead at the scene.
Police have identified the suspect as the mother’s estranged boyfriend, Donte Lamont Brown, 41. They believe Brown pulled up alongside the victim’s vehicle when they stopped at a red light and opened fire.
Per a News Release by the Sheriff’s Department, Brown is the prime suspect in the double murder and is considered armed and dangerous. Homicide Investigators explain that Brown allegedly shot into the car numerous times. Hall exited the vehicle and fell to the ground. The driver-less car then traveled across Central Avenue and hit a traffic light. Authorities found Martin unresponsive in the passenger seat.
