Newport Beach officer-involved shooting leaves one dead

NEWPORT BEACH, California — A traffic stop on West Coast Highway turned deadly when a Newport Beach Police Department officer shot and killed a 45-year-old man after a violent altercation. The incident occurred on April 17, 2025, at approximately 9:15 p.m.The motorcyclist, identified as Geoffrey Shyam Stirling, of Laguna Niguel, was initially stopped for a traffic violation. According to the Newport Beach Police Department, Stirling became uncooperative and assaulted the officer, managing to seize the officer’s taser and attempting to use it multiple times.
