E-Scooter Rider Dies After Being Struck by Car in Long Beach, Driver Suspected of Running Red Light

A fatal accident involving an e-scooter and a vehicle has taken the life of a man in Long Beach, as reported by the Long Beach Police Department. The incident, which occurred on April 29 at roughly 9:40 a.m. on the 6500 block of Atlantic Avenue, involved a collision as the e-scooter rider crossed a marked crosswalk.

As stated by CBS News Los Angeles, the e-scooter rider was tragically struck by a 2019 Honda Accord, whose driver, a 19-year-old Long Beach resident, ran a red light while traveling northbound towards Artesia Boulevard. Following the collision, the victim was transported to a local hospital in critical condition, before succumbing to his injuries five days later.

The Long Beach Police Department shared that the scooter operator remained hospitalized in the aftermath of the accident and was pronounced dead on May 3, 2025.
