ORANGE, Calif. — The Chicano community has deep roots all over Southern California. The culture can be found in everything from food to entertainment to many things in between, blended into the fabric of the area.
In Orange County, the Chicano culture is on display throughout the area on walls and canvases. Much of the work of late artist Emigdio Vazquez, also known as the “Godfather of Chicano Art,” depicts the community he grew up in on Cypress Street in Orange. His friend Fred Ortiz shared some of his personal collection of Vazquez’s art and discusses the meaning behind some of the subject matter.
