My O.C.: Growing Up at Knott’s Berry Farm — And Moving On

For more than 34 years, The Mott’s Miniatures museum was tucked into the Old West-themed Knott’s Berry Farm Ghost Town. For those who don’t remember—or who weren’t yet born—it was a “History of America in Miniature.” And, in a way, it is where I grew up.It was owned by my family. No, not the Knott family—the Mott family. They’d been collecting and making miniatures since 1911. In 1958, they moved the museum to Knott’s Berry Farm.Knott’s was a very different place back in the ’60s and ’70s—not the fast-paced amusement park it is today. It was kind of a quiet little village. The people at Knott’s were like family……
