On Thursday, August 7th, the U.S. Attorney’s Office Central District of California announced in a press release that Jacob Terrazas had been charged with one count of assault on a federal employee by using a deadly and dangerous weapon resulting in bodily injury. According to the release, Terrazas was one of several protesters who threw objects, including rocks and cinderblocks, at federal immigration officers in an anti-ICE riot near the Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) facility in Paramount in early June. As reported by officials, Terrazas, who was wearing a dark beanie and mask, used a makeshift shield and the nearby trees for cover. Allegedly, one of the concrete pieces struck a Border Patrol agent in the left shin, injuring him and causing bleeding. After assessing the injury and deeming he could still walk and stand, the agent returned to the front lines.

After resorting to less-lethal force pepper bells against Terrazas and the other assailants, Law enforcement officers eventually detained, identified, and arrested Terrazas. This riot was just one of many that occurred in Southern California this past June. In response to the Trump Administration’s mobilization of immigration enforcement and an increase in ICE raids and arrests, protesters in Paramount took to the streets during the weekend, starting June 7th. Besides Terrazas, two other men were charged with possession of an unregistered destructive device after throwing Molotov cocktails at officers during the same Paramount riot.Acting U.S. Attorney Bill Essayli took to X, posting a video of Terrazas’ arrest…
