A beach day almost turned deadly for two children in Newport Beach, California. When a sand hole collapsed on two boys near the Newport Beach Pier, the pair became trapped, kicking off a frantic rescue effort as water levels began to rise.
The rescue occurred last month, when two boys became buried in the wet sand by the collapse of a hole they had dug. “Once that sand gets wet it gets heavy,” Newport Beach Lifeguards Captain Mark Herman told Fox 11. “It basically buried them from their waist down. They couldn’t get themselves out.”
A dramatic video circulating on social media shows onlookers rushing to the boys’ aid and unsuccessfully attempting to dig them out. Then, Newport lifeguards arrived on the scene and joined in the effort, finally managing to free the pair…
