Confusion Erupts During Drug Bust at The Abbey
West Hollywood was shaken up Friday night after a misunderstanding turned a police drug bust into a full-blown panic. Some folks thought it was an immigration raid. The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said it was actually an undercover narcotics operation, not ICE. As reported, more than a dozen people were taken into custody on drug-related charges near The Abbey, one of the most famous bars in West Hollywood’s nightlife scene. The operation came after community members raised the alarm about pickpocketing, drug dealing, and other shady activity around the area.
Thirteen individuals — including staff and patrons — were arrested as part of the sting.
“That is unfortunate, we do have a lot of issues and drugs in West Hollywood,” said Ian Park, a local resident. “I, myself, am in recovery, and I don’t think it’s ever going away, but it’s nice to have some awareness about the issues and drugs here.”
