There was a large spike recently in missed trash pickups as Long Beach rolled out a new state-mandated green waste collection system, according to newly released city data.
Data shows missed pickups for regular trash began rising in June, peaking in August and September, when the city missed at least 1,700 pickups each month.
Missed green waste pickups saw a similarly dramatic increase in that time period.
This coincided with the second-phase rollout of the city’s new green waste collection program, which began last October and ramped up in June through the start of this month.
