Local Resident, 70, Graduates Police Academy and Begins Service with Mountains Recreation and Conservation Authority

In the fall of 2025, John Fisher graduated from the Río Hondo College Police Academy in California. At 70 years old, Fisher became one of the oldest individuals in the state to complete the six-month basic police academy program. Fisher stated that the achievement was about fulfilling a commitment to service and purpose.

Fisher’s path to law enforcement was not typical. He previously worked for decades in the entertainment industry at Sony Pictures Television, managing productions and budgets. Fisher said that, despite the pressures of television, the police academy’s physical training was especially challenging. He credited his experience managing stress and responsibility with helping him adapt to the academy’s requirements.

Before joining the police academy, Fisher volunteered with several public service organizations. Over the past ten years, he worked with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, the LAPD’s California Emergency Mobile Patrol, and the Santa Clarita Search and Rescue team. He also patrolled local parks by mountain bike, assisting visitors and maintaining trails.
