Two people were killed in a multi-vehicle crash late Wednesday on the 5 Freeway in Downey, prompting a prolonged traffic closure as authorities investigated, officials said.
The collision was reported around 11:37 p.m. on the southbound freeway near the Lakewood Boulevard off-ramp, the California Highway Patrol confirmed Thursday morning.
When CHP units arrived, they found at least two heavily damaged vehicles spread across multiple lanes. Video from the scene shows debris scattered across the freeway, with a pickup truck and a dark-colored sedan involved. Several CHP cruisers and fire engines blocked the roadway as emergency crews worked under flashing red and blue lights.
Paramedics with the Downey Fire Department pronounced two people dead at the scene. Their identities have not been released…
