Orange County and federal agencies launched a coordinated effort Wednesday to clear homeless encampments at the Santa Ana River Marsh in Newport Beach.
The operation began at 8 a.m. and marked the first coordinated cleanup since the county’s anti-encampment ordinance took effect last month, Supervisor Katrina Foley said.
Aerial video from Sky5 over the area at 9 a.m. showed a dump truck nearly filled with trash and debris removed from the encampment.
“Working alongside our government and law enforcement partners, we begin the necessary steps to restore the marsh, repair fencing, and remove hazardous debris safely and efficiently,” Foley said…
