On Dec. 9 Huntington Park City Council unanimously approved Ordinance No. 2025-14, which amends the city’s Rent Stabilization Ordinance to add a non-payment eviction threshold of one month, allowing tenants to be up to one month behind before facing eviction. Previously, landlords could begin just cause eviction proceedings at any time. The ordinance takes effect in 30 days.
Huntington Park became the latest Southeast L.A. (SELA) city to expand tenant protections amid the immigration raids that continue to threaten housing and job stability across the region.
Huntington Park’s Rent Stabilization Ordinance — its first rent control measure — was passed unanimously in November 2024. The line added to the ordinance states “Nonpayment of rent; unpaid rent must exceed one full month of the tenant’s contract rent,” to be considered a just cause eviction.
The city is following the lead of other SELA cities like Cudahy, which voted to pass a similar ordinance in October.
