An hours-long SWAT standoff unfolded in an Irvine neighborhood Saturday after police linked vandalized vehicles to gunfire that struck a nearby home, authorities said.
According to the Irvine Police Department, officers were called around 7:30 a.m. to the 700 block of Timberwood following reports of multiple vehicles being vandalized. While officers were on scene, they discovered a nearby home window had been hit by bullets.
Investigators believed the vandalism and shooting were connected and identified a 47-year-old man who lives in the area as a suspect. Police said the man declined to speak with officers.
Around 6 p.m., officers attempted to serve a warrant at the suspect’s residence, but he refused to surrender, prompting a prolonged police response and the deployment of a SWAT team…
