A mom of two has died after she was swept away in a river in Southern California on New Year’s Day.

On Thursday, Jan. 1, just before 12 p.m. local time, officials received a call about a person in the Santa Ana River in unincorporated Fountain Valley, Capt. Sean Doran of the Orange County Fire Authority tells PEOPLE.

In response, multiple agencies and approximately 60 firefighters rushed to the scene. A helicopter team, rescue boats and crew members on bridges (who were present to lower inflatable hoses for the victim to grab on to) were also at the scene…
