LOS ANGELES, California — A 56-year-old Mexican national, Gabriel Garcia-Aviles, died at Victor Valley Global Medical Center in Victorville on October 23. Garcia-Aviles was pronounced dead at 7:45 p.m. by medical professionals, according to a press release from the hospital.
Garcia-Aviles was arrested by U.S. Border Patrol in Santa Ana on October 14 and transferred to ICE custody at the Santa Ana Hold Rooms pending removal proceedings. He was moved to the Adelanto ICE Processing Center on October 15 but was immediately admitted to Victor Valley Global Medical Center due to suspected alcohol withdrawal symptoms, including disorientation, confusion, and impaired mobility.
While under medical care, Garcia-Aviles’ condition deteriorated, and he was declared unresponsive at approximately 7:35 p.m. on October 23.
