Demolition of the former La Brea Bakery at Downtown Disney District in Disneyland Resort to transform into Porto’s Bakery continues, now with a new poster and scrim walls.
New Porto’s Bakery Poster
At the far end of the colorful partition walls near the courtyard between the entrances to Disneyland and California Adventure, we spotted a new Porto’s Bakery poster on our recent visit to Downtown Disney.
The poster has a yellow background decorated with tree leaves and the Porto’s Bakery logo. A timeline of the history of Porto’s Bakery through the years is depicted on the poster:
- 1960: Rosa Porto began baking out of her home in Cuba.
- 1976: The Porto family opened their first bakery in Silver Lake, Los Angeles, outgrowing their home kitchen and beginning a family-owned legacy.
- 1980: The family outgrows their first location and moves Porto’s Bakery to Glendale, CA.
- 2006: The bakery continues to grow, and the family decides to open a second location in Burbank, CA.
- 2010: Porto’s opens in Downey, CA.
- 2017: Porto’s opens in Buena Park, CA.
- 2018: Porto’s Bake at Home launches, offering the Porto’s favorites, nationwide!
- 2019: Porto’s opens in West Covina, CA.
- 2022: Porto’s opens in Northridge, CA.
- Coming soon: Porto’s in Anaheim, CA.
New Scrim Walls Surrounding the Former La Brea Bakery
New dark green scrim walls have also been added to surround the demolition of the La Brea Bakery. The scrim walls connect partway down the walkway with the current colorful partition walls, and they stretch all the way down to the entrance of the World of Disney shop.
The scrim walls prevent guests from walking around the left side of the large flower fountain near the entrance to World of Disney. Guests now have to walk around the right side of the fountain, closer to the tram station.
The scrim walls connect with the end of the colorful partition walls, still leaving the Disneyland 70th anniversary decorative poster available for guests to see.
Behind the scrim walls, crews continue to demolish the former La Brea Bakery building. All the support columns that were still up when we last reported about the demolition appear to be removed now.
Porto’s Bakery
La Brea Bakery closed permanently in 2023, but the building was used as a temporary Earl of Sandwich for over two years. The new Porto’s Bakery & Cafe was announced in 2022 to replace La Brea, but there were delays with the project. Earl of Sandwich is also getting a new location in Downtown Disney.
In addition to the former La Brea Bakery, two ticket booths were demolished.
