La Mirada Plans Expanded Homeless Outreach Through New Contract

The La Mirada City Council is considering a new approach to strengthening homeless outreach services by contracting with an experienced independent outreach specialist to supplement existing county-funded efforts.

Currently, homeless outreach services in La Mirada are provided through an agreement between the Gateway Cities Council of Governments and Pacific Clinics. Under that arrangement, Pacific Clinics staff visit the city one day a week for several hours to conduct outreach with people experiencing homelessness. Those services include assessing individuals’ health and welfare and making referrals to shelters and other housing options.

City officials say the limited schedule has prompted interest in expanding outreach on a more consistent basis. To do so, the city is proposing an agreement with Lorine Alatorre, an independent contractor with extensive experience in homeless services…
