Huge $1,000 self-checkout fines under new ‘15 item or less’ law to hit US supermarkets in 8 weeks

A TOUGH new law will see supermarkets hit with $1,000 fines if they fail to employ staff to monitor self-checkout lanes.

But the rule also states that shoppers will – from April – be limited to purchasing up to 15 items at cashier-free kiosks in California.

Costa Mesa City Council has granted final approval of a law requiring an employee to monitor self-checkout lanes at local stores, reported LA Times.
